C-Mac: Daniel Jones decision 'broke' Giants, and players should be criticized for that

The Giants were steamrolled by the Bucs in a 30-7 loss at home, and Chris McMonigle ripped the players for their effort in their first game since Daniel Jones was benched, demoted to fourth string, and released.

“Thirty to seven, where everyone on the team decided to lay down, is unacceptable,” C-Mac said. “This group has completely given up on football. It’s one thing to lose…this team flat-out gave up.”

The lopsided loss led to more heavy criticism geared towards Brian Daboll, as some are starting to believe that the head coach has lost the locker room and could wind up losing his job after many assumed he would be safe in his third season. But C-Mac says the players should be hearing the brunt of the criticism for their effort on Sunday.

“Maybe the coach’s message is not getting through, but the effort the players put forth is unacceptable, no matter who the coach is,” C-Mac said.
“If I’m any potential coach to come in, next head of football operations, I’m taking note of every player on this roster right now.

“When I hear the comments I hear after the game, when I hear players refer to them as ‘soft’…there is some personal pride of wearing a Giant uniform, no matter what you think of the coach…there is no doubt - and this pisses me off - this move [to bench Daniel Jones] broke the team.”

If it was the Jones decision that led to the putrid effort on Sunday, then the players have allowed that to put their head coach’s job in serious danger, especially with how the offense continued to look, even after the quarterback change.

“It’s almost not even about football…it’s about how you move forward and try to fix this crap,” C-Mac said. “This is an offensive coach that I have tried to defend. Reports early on this year were that Daboll was safe, and people laughed when anyone said he was on the hot seat…I said from the beginning, ‘How can an offensive coach be safe when this is the offense they’ve been putting out?’ it’s unacceptable.”
