Both New York football coaches are catching heat as their teams struggle, but C-Mac is convinced that both will get a shot to run it back next season.
Why? Because their quarterback situations have been unenviable, to say the least, and C-Mac believes those in charge will want to give their head coaches another shot with more capable players at key positions.
“It’s amazing enough, but in some way, both of these coaches are going to be saved by the quarterback position,” C-Mac said. “As much as Robert Saleh is running this Zach Wilson train into the damn ground, and as undisciplined as this team is…he’s not going anywhere, as long as Aaron Rodgers is the guy. You get the impression every day that he’s stuck with Zach Wilson…as long as he’s force-fed this quarterback, why fire him?”
When it comes to Brian Daboll, C-Mac says there is already grounds to move on, and for Daboll to become the latest in a long line of Giants head coaches to survive just two years. But that very narrative, along with the team’s current quarterback conundrum, will keep him around for what the team likely hopes is a top draft pick to be its quarterback of the future.
“Make no mistake, Daboll is awful right now,” C-Mac said. “His postgames are awful. It’s the same old nonsense. As bad as he’s been - and this has been as bad as McAdoo, Shurmur, Judge, all of it - this has been enough of a disgrace and enough of a pathetic performance of a season…he has done enough to cost himself his job. Under normal circumstances, Brian Daboll deserves to be fired, but he won’t. The Giants don’t want to keep firing coaches after two years. Congratulations Brian, you took the job at the right time…then the other thing, quite simply, the quarterback position.
“This is how Daboll got a job in the NFL, and how he got the job with the Giants: developing a quarterback. Now, you’re seeing the ramifications in Buffalo of Josh Allen without Brian Daboll…it’s going to save his job.”
