C-Mac is all in on the Tommy DeVito hype, and loving every minute of it. But he also isn’t letting that take away from the reality that DeVito’s time as the starter seems to have a clear expiration date, even if the Giants keep winning games.
“They gave Daniel Jones a big contract,” C-Mac said. “If he’s healthy, he’s the guy. They can draft No. 1 overall, and still have Jones be the guy next year. DeVito might be part of the team, but they’re not gonna make him the guy.
“Jones is more talented. They’re gonna start there. We’ll see.”
Jones is recovering from ACL surgery, and hopes to be ready for training camp next year. Fans are all in on DeVito in the here and now, but C-Mac doesn’t want fans to forget that Jones hype was at a similar level at this time last season, and he will be the starting quarterback when healthy, since he is being paid like one.
“Daniel Jones threw less interceptions than anyone in football last year,” C-Mac said. “Less turnovers, he stopped fumbling, they won a bunch of games…to the point where we all loved him and praised him and were happy when he got the contract. Now it’s revisionist history that he had a bad year, and DeVito has come in and won three games against three under .500 teams. Relax.
“I like what I’ve seen too. Let’s just focus on the here and now. Next year will take care of himself. But if you ask my opinion, Daniel Jones is the starting quarterback when he’s healthy.”
