C-Mac: Giants should franchise tag Saquon Barkley again, then 'probably just let him walk'

Saquon Barkley talked about his Giants future on Wednesday, as he awaits to see if the only team he has played for in the NFL will franchise tag him for a second straight season.

Some fans want to see the running back awarded with a contract, but C-Mac says it wouldn’t be smart for the Giants to go that route.

“He is a running back, and the running back value isn’t there,” C-Mac said. “I expect them to do the same thing last year. I fully expect Saquon Barkley to be tagged and not given a contract, and frankly, I don’t think they should give him a contract. If I’m the Giants, I tag him, and if he plays great next year…I’d probably just let him walk.

“If I couldn’t come to a contract with him a couple years ago, I’m not doing it now…I am tagging Saquon Barkley, and then probably looking for another running back next year.”

C-Mac appreciates what Barkley has done for the Giants across his career, despite the lack of talent around him, but the nature of the NFL suggests that signing Barkley would not be the right move.

“It’s a crappy business. I feel bad for him,” C-Mac said. “I wouldn’t be surprised if he held out next year, and I was shocked that he didn’t this year.”
