The Giants pointed to their struggles on third down as a reason for Thursday’s loss to the 49ers, and C-Mac said that inability to get one more stop and force punts lies at the feet of the defense’s inability to finish any tackles during the 30-12 loss.
“The Giants don’t tackle. It’s obvious watching this football game,” C-Mac said. “If you watch Christian McCaffrey carry the football, or watch Deebo Samuel run after catching the football, the Giants defense is atrocious.
“The lack of - I don’t know if you want to call it effort or that they’re going for a turnover because the defense has yet to have one this season - whatever the case may be, the tackling is pathetic.”
Samuel specifically shook off multiple defenders after the catch on Thursday, and Brian Daboll told reporters Friday morning that the tackling needs to improve.
C-Mac couldn’t agree more.
“I’m certainly not going to give them a pat on the back, especially when watching this team,” C-Mac said. “Deebo Samuel averaged 7.5 yards after contact per reception...everybody missing tackles, getting run over.”
