Xavier McKinney fired back at criticisms following the Giants loss to the Dolphins on Sunday.

When asked about Miami’s plethora of big chunk plays, McKinney said, via The Athletic, “What were not gonna do is keep blaming the defense. We lost as a team and it is what it is.”

In response to criticism by Jonathan Vilma on the FOX broadcast that McKinney blew his assignment on an easy 69-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill, McKinney once again fired back.

“He doesn’t know what he’s talking about then,” McKinney said. “He don’t know football. He don’t know coverages, clearly.”

C-Mac clearly didn’t agree with McKinney.

“You guys are awful. You took a terrible angle,” C-Mac said. “I know the running back is fast. You took a terrible angle. Then, you’re playing safety on the same side that Tyreek Hill beats a rookie cornerback on.

“I’m not gonna try and tell you I’m a savant with the X’s and O’s of the game, but I doubt very much that they trusted a rookie cornerback, who’s been beaten left and right over the least three weeks, to be alone against Tyreek Hill on the outside! I doubt very much that you had zero responsibility to make sure that wasn’t the easiest touchdown the Dolphins have had, and they’ve had hundreds!”

The touchdown by Hill put the Dolphins up 24-10 to start the third quarter, and essentially put the Giants away. C-Mac didn’t want to hear any clapbacks from McKinney after the game.

“He’s getting after Jonathan Vilma for partially blaming him for the coverage lapse,” C-Mac said. “And he’s talking about ‘We’re not blaming the defense, it’s a team thing.’ You had no chance. None.”
