C-Mac: What kind of belief does Brian Daboll deserve if Giants can't beat Commanders?

As the Giants prepare for the Commanders on Sunday, Chris McMonigle says the Week 2 matchup will not just be pivotal in terms of saving New York’s hopes of having a competitive season, but in terms of seeing what kind of leadership is at the helm.

This will not just be a massive game for Daniel Jones. It will be huge in terms of seeing how Brian Daboll can rally his players and put together a competitive game plan against a team Big Blue has had plenty of success against in recent years.

“You look at how they opened this season and last season and how they played...no offensive game plan, zero defensive game plan, zero effort, zero getting after the passer,” C-Mac said.

“If this goes the way it went last week, and you see the same inept offense...if you see the inability to get after and make Jayden Daniels uncomfortable...if this coach can’t figure out a way to bounce back and get this win before embarking on the rest of this schedule...what season do the Giants have if this game doesn’t look dramatically different than Week 1?”

The Giants were also blown out in their season opener last year, and the season quickly became non-competitive. If Daboll and the Giants want to avoid that in 2024, they will have to get a win on Sunday, and how they look in Week 2 could say a lot about their head coach.

“What kind of coach and belief system do we have in this tandem of Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen if they can’t get up for this game?” C-Mac said.
