The Giants’ receiving corps is going to go into Dallas, at least, a man down, as Wan’Dale Robinson is out for the year with a torn ACL suffered in Sunday’s loss to Detroit.
With a short week, it will be tough for the Giants to do much of anything outside the building, so it’s going to be a crew led by Darius Slayton, Richie James, and Kenny Golladay catching passes from Daniel Jones, with David Sills V, Isaiah Hodgins, and Marcus Johnson also available along with a few options on the practice squad.
“We have plenty of receivers on the roster, as you know,” head coach Brian Daboll said Monday. “So, it’s a short week. We’ll get the guys ready to go, and we’ll revisit things like we always do each week and see where it goes.”
One person who could step up and reclaim prominence in Robinson’s absence is Golladay, who caught two passes for 29 yards Sunday – doubling his season output in both categories.
The Giants signed Golladay to a large contract prior to the 2021 season and are still waiting for the commensurate production, but he can at least be an important cog in the engine, if not the fuel.
“Kenny did his job. (He) made a couple of plays when the ball was thrown to him,” Daboll said. “I’d say the receivers in general – I think Slay made some good plays. I think Isaiah had a couple called back. He made some good plays. I know he fumbled that ball. He was very disappointed in that of himself. But those guys know what to do. And we’ll go out there and put a plan together to utilize anybody who’s going to be active.”
And come Friday, after the two biggest suitors it seems for Odell Beckham Jr. are done playing, wonder will move back to where OBJ ends up – and the window certainly seems open in New York.
“I think that’s something that Joe (Schoen) and I will talk about,” Daboll said. “Just like all the spots, this will be another discussion that we’ll have. And we’ll see where it goes.”
