With Tommy DeVito thriving and Daniel Jones on crutches, Gio says it’s going to be “impossible” for the former starting quarterback to return and be a “leader” for the Giants as DeVito becomes the story of the city.
“The dream is gonna have to evaporate in the next couple of weeks for Daniel Jones to be able to walk into that locker room and be the leader,” Gio said.
“If he goes on to beat the Saints and happens to win one of those Eagles games and plays well, you’re telling me Daniel Jones, off an ACL, with the entire team and general manager in the locker room doing [the DeVito hand gesture celebration], Daniel Jones is gonna walk in there with his sleepy-ass personality and take control of that team? My ass.”
Gio asked Boomer how he would explain Jones’ personality, which he believes comes off as dull. Then, on the other hand, you have DeVito, who has captivated New York and led fans to dream that he could be the next in a line of rare cases where an out-of-nowhere quarterback turns in a productive NFL career.
“Then if I say Tommy DeVito and his personality, he’s been here for 10 minutes, and you go ‘Cutlets, tailgate, agent, father,’ and he’s winning…when the locker room and the general manager is doing the hand thing, Daniel Jones can’t walk back in there as a leader,” Gio said. “It’s impossible.”
