BT: Daniel Jones needs to become a star to keep Giants momentum, but can he?

As the Giants get set to begin their quest to improve upon last season’s surprising success, BT says Big Blue will have no chance of taking the next step unless the quarterback takes another big leap.

“Daniel Jones needs to be a star,” BT said. “We can’t sit here at the end of the year and say ‘Is he, isn’t he?’ He needs to be top-10 guy. I can’t sit here and say he’s gonna be a top-10 quarterback, and I like him.

“Daniel Jones needs to take the next step for the Giants to close the gap between them and the Eagles and Cowboys. And I think he will.”

Does Jones have another leap in him, or was last year as good as it gets? A 3,200-yard season with 15 touchdowns and a 67 percent completion percentage is a solid year for a team that leaned heavily on running back Saquon Barkley, but BT says there needs to be more from Jones. He just isn’t sure if there is more there yet.

“I don’t know how many layers there is until the top of the ceiling,” BT said. “Trevor Lawrence, he’s gonna be a superstar, but I can’t say that about Daniel Jones, and he needs to be to keep the Giants moving in the right direction.

“I don’t want to be sitting here at the end of the football season and wondering aloud…is Daniel Jones absolutely better than Kirk Cousins? Is he better than Purdy or Goff? I’d love to see it, but until I see it, I haven’t seen it yet.”
