Down by 11 with seven minutes to go on the road in New Orleans, Daniel Jones led the Giants offense to an improbable comeback victory by showing the poise and efficiency the team needed to see in a crucial season for the young quarterback.
Searching for the first win of the season, Jones completed 11 of his next 15 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown to get Big Blue a 27-21 overtime win, with Jones finishing with a career-high 402 yards through the air.
“That was a great performance by Daniel,” rookie wide receiver Kadarius Toney said. “I don’t feel like anybody in that locker room doubts him no matter what. Whether he’s having a bad game or a good game, there’s never no doubt there.”
With New York depleted at the receiver position, Jones spread the wealth and completed 28 of his 40 passing attempts, finishing with a season-high 108.5 quarterback rating, the second time already this season that he has eclipsed the 100 mark. He started the scoring with a 52-yard strike to John Ross in double coverage for a deep touchdown, setting the tone for his career day, surpassing his previous high of 352 passing yards, and until Sunday, had never eclipsed 280 passing yards with Jason Garrett as the offensive coordinator.

“We needed a win, and there was a high sense of urgency to do that,” Jones said. “We treated it, looking at it this week, one week at a time and focused on what we were doing throughout the week preparing, and coming here on Sunday and playing our best. That was our focus this week, to prepare to do that.
“We’ve gotta continue to work. We have to continue to sharpen things up, but definitely a big win.”
Jones nearly carried the Giants to a win against Washington in Week 2, but finished the job on Sunday, showing that perhaps he just might be an answer at quarterback to lead New York out of its early-season hole. Of course, that doesn’t surprise the receivers he’s been throwing to since summer.
“I always said in the offseason, I see the work he puts in and I see how great he wants to be, and today he went out there, very competitive, and he had a day,” Kenny Golladay said. “It’s not so much what I learned about him, I knew what he was capable of doing.”
