Daniel Jones joined Boomer and Gio from Giants camp on Tuesday morning and touched on a number of topics, including his reaction to the first-ever Offseason Hard Knocks, which clearly showed the organization’s interest in trading up for a top quarterback prospect, who would have been Jones’ eventual replacement.
“You don’t feel great about it,” Jones confessed. “It’s not something you want to watch or are excited to see. But it’s part of the business of the NFL. I understand that. It’s my job to focus on what I’m doing and to lock in and be ready to go play the best football I can.
“I wasn’t happy about it, but it’s part of it, and I understand that.”
The Giants did not trade up for a quarterback, and Jones is the Week 1 starter as he continues to work his way back from ACL surgery. He put his knee to the test on Saturday in his first preseason action, and while there were some rough interceptions in the early going, Jones came out feeling strong in his surgically-repaired knee, and didn’t find himself worried about the stability of his ACL in his first taste of game action since the injury.
“I’m excited about this year. I feel really good physically and feel good about the camp we’ve had,” Jones said. “I think maybe the first snap or two, you’re thinking about it, but more just playing again and the speed of the game and having not been out there for a while, that’s more what you’re getting used to...I wasn’t overly concerned about the knee as much, just getting back in the swing of playing.”
