Dave DeGuglielmo’s brief time as the Giants’ offensive line coach is officially over, as Louisiana Tech announced today that the former Big Blue assistant is headed to join the Bulldogs in the same role.
DeGuglielmo originally joined the Giants as a consultant, but took over offensive line coaching duties in New York midway through the 2020 season, after then-coach Marc Colombo was let go by Joe Judge – a sudden move that prompted rumors of altercations within the locker room between Judge and Colombo.
Judge eventually told reporters that moving on from Colombo and bringing in DeGuglielmo was “in the best interest of the New York Giants, short and long term.”
DeGuglielmo only had a one-year deal, however, and now heads to college to reunite with Louisiana Tech head coach Skip Holtz, whom he has worked with twice before; DeGuglielmo was UConn’s offensive line coach in 1997 and 1998 – Holtz’s final two years as head coach of the Huskies – and the two were both assistants under Skip’s dad, the legendary Lou Holtz, at South Carolina from 1999-2003.
DeGuglielmo departs the NFL coaching realm, at least for the time being, with two Super Bowl rings in his possession, one with Big Blue in 2007 and one with the Patriots in 2014. He also was the Jets’ offensive line coach from 2012 to 2013 before being fired.
