Boomer & Gio of course broke down every aspect of the Giants’ win over the Vikings on Monday’s show…and it appears as if the Vikings have finally broken Gregg Giannotti.
As we learned in the Moment of the Day, Gio’s poor mother-in-law Louise couldn’t even ask about tacos or the Giants’ impressive rise without getting a tongue-lashing from the love of her daughter’s life:
Well, today, in the 7 a.m. hour, after hearing Boomer talk about how the play of the game might have been Daniel Jones taking a knee right on the Viking head at midfield, Gregg had finally had enough and turned his Skol to vitriol.
“These images now are going to remain with me for the rest of my life…just add it to the list, that file cabinet of bad memories from this football team,” Gio said of the less Viking-friendly plays of the game.
Kevin in New Hampshire then called in and told Gio that no one should be giving him any crap about his situation and his pick for the game, because “when a husky guy marries a hot wife, you don’t get to win anything else in life, and you knew that!”
Gio’s family life is one thing, and we’ll leave Mrs. Giannotti out of it, but he did think about that notion.
“Whatever the Giants fan wants, I will give them,” Gio said. “I did think about that yesterday, because I was trying to not focus on the negative and think about what I do have. So I said to myself, maybe that’s what it is: I had a great childhood, my parents are still around, I have the family – maybe I’m just not allowed to have happiness with my sports teams. And I’d take that every single time.”
Then again…
“But then I thought about all the people who live charmed lives who are Giants fans – like some hedge fund guy with seven different residences who was watching from a $50 million penthouse,” Gio said, “and then I thought to myself maybe that’s not the case.”
So, what it comes down to is that maybe, just maybe, Gio has some fandom buyers’ remorse…enough to jump the Viking ship?
“I end up picking the Vikings, and go nuts on Friday, but everything I said leading up to that came true,” Gio said. “There’s nothing I can say to a Giants fan today to satisfy them, but I have ultimate respect for the head coach, Daniel Jones, and Saquon Barkley, and your team is better than my team. And honestly, and I mean this, I wish that all those years ago, I made a different decision, and was a Giants fan.”
And then, the coup de grace:
“My life would be so much better and my outlook on life would be different. I didn’t pick a team that’s down every year and just sucks; no, I picked the team that wins and gets you excited, and then kicks you right in the nuts at the worst time.”
