Evan says there is absolutely a quarterback controversy for the Giants, simply because many fans want Tyrod Taylor to remain the starter, and because Brian Daboll dodged the question when asked after Sunday’s win over the Commanders.
However, for this Sunday against the rival Jets, Evan says there should be no controversy. Given the pressure Jones could be under, Evan says it’s best for Jones to remain on the bench at least for one more week.
“Do you understand the pass rush and the hell that will be released on Sunday by the New York Jets? I put my arm around him to protect him,” Evan said. “Daniel Jones can’t play Sunday. He hasn’t been cleared for contact because of a neck issue…they’re about to play the ’85 Bears. Let’s protect him.”
What helps the Giants, in Evan’s opinion, is that Jones and Taylor don’t represent much parity depending on who is playing.
“It helps that I have a quarterback that offers very little drop-off,” Evan said. “Tyrod Taylor has had a better career than Daniel Jones…he’s had a winning record, he’s put up better numbers, let’s stop with the slander on what Tyrod Taylor has accomplished in the NFL. He’s accomplished more.
“I don’t think there’s that great of a dropoff…as a Jet fan, looking at Sunday’s game, what gives me the better chance to win? Dude, flip a coin…it’s the same. There is very little difference between Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor…you’re basically arguing about Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. They’re kind of the same.”
Morash does not agree, and believes the Giants would have won more comfortably, and maybe even beat the Bills a week prior, if Jones wasn’t nursing a neck injury.
“The Giants score more points in that game if Daniel Jones is the quarterback,” Morash said.
