Two weeks back, Evan posed the idea of the Giants putting Saquon Barkley on the trading block if they fell to 1-5 on the season.
Well, Big Blue is now 1-5 on the year after losses to the Dolphins and Bills, and Evan revisited the topic to open Thursday’s show.
Tiki was still against the idea.
“If you remove him from the locker room, the locker room loses something,” Tiki said. “He’s part of this retool. If he’s healthy like he was playing earlier this week, earlier this season, and last year, he is one of the most valuable running backs in the NFL. How are you replacing that?”
Tiki added that trading Barkley and initiating a tank could be a road Brian Daboll wouldn’t survive, but Evan says New York has to be open to the idea, for more reasons than one.
“All you need is two teams to get into a fight or a bidding war over the next two weeks, and maybe you get a package back that none of us expect,” Evan said.
“If you’re taking a player like Saquon and getting back a lot of draft capital - let’s say it’s a two and a three - you can tell your fans it is going to be a bad year, and going to get ugly…but it’s going to help us next year and the year after that. How many more years is Saquon Barkley gonna be here? Are we gonna play a one-year deal game with Saquon Barkley for the next however many years, when you can potentially get a return to help this roster, or maybe you do want to trade up for a quarterback. Maybe you have decided to move on from Daniel Jones. The losing in the short term will benefit you, and having extra draft picks will benefit you.”
