Evan & Tiki: What would make the Giants season successful?
As Evan and Tiki discussed the upcoming season at Giants training camp, the two gave their answers for what would constitute a successful campaign for Big Blue.
For Tiki, a 9-8 record would be the bar for a “good” year, and anything else could take the season to unprecedented heights.
“A good season is if they’re above .500 and Daniel Jones stays healthy, and you don’t have to worry about what the quarterback season is,” Tiki said. “An exceptional season is double-digit wins and getting to the playoffs again. If that happens, then the sky - not maybe this year, but going forward - is the limit.
“That tells you that a young team that is building on talent is overachieving...it would be so encouraging, you couldn’t help but be exciting. Then, in 2025, you’re saying that this team needs to be contending for an NFC championship.”
The Jones of it all is a major question mark as he returns from ACL surgery, and Tiki wants to see the quarterback revert to 2022 form and give the fans reason to dream big in 2025.
“This year, to me, be above .500. that’s successful,” Tiki said. “Play with the same kind of culture that was developed two years ago, stay healthy, and be accountable.”
For Evan, a good year is a simple definition for the Giants in 2024: be in the playoff hunt by the holidays, and when the season is over, feel good about the roster, even if the feeling is that they still need a quarterback.
“I need the Giants, in the middle of December...you don’t have to rationalize a playoff race,” Evan said. “You’re in a playoff race.”
