Evan: Are Malik Nabers expectations becoming unfair?
Malik Nabers appears to have avoided a serious ankle injury, and the hype for the wide receiver’s rookie season is back on.
But Evan wonders if the Giants’ sixth overall pick is getting a little too much hype.
“Malik Nabers is facing expectations that I almost think are unfair,” Evan said. “I get it, the kid looks great. This is not meant to disparage Malik Nabers at all. But this feels unfair.”
Nabers was a stud at LSU and has all the tools to be a star, but Evan wonders if fans like Shaun Morash and Tommy Lugauer are setting the bar too high too quickly by already believing that he can go down as the best wideout in franchise history. Whether it’s fair or not, Tiki doesn’t believe it will be any kind of problem for Nabers.
“I think Malik Nabers wants these high expectations,” Tiki said. “I think he thrives in these type of moments and these type of thoughts about him. He wants to live up to them. I think Odell came in with that same mentality.
“If you’re drafted in the top 10 or so as a wide receiver…the expectation is that you better be great, and you better be like some of these guys who came before you.”
