Daniel Jones was sidelined for six games with a neck injury in 2021, and his status for Sunday is up in the air due to another neck injury, which he says is not related to the initial ailment.
Just five games into his four-year contract, Evan says it is already time to question whether Jones can stay healthy enough to justify his new deal.
“This is the first time, and we’re only five games into the year, where I’m not fully questioning whether this guy can be your long-term answer at quarterback,” Evan said. “The biggest concern about Daniel Jones going into last year…can he stay healthy? It’s back. Him saying to Kay Adams that it isn’t the same neck injury is not enough to ease my concerns or anyone else’s concerns. He has a neck issue for the second time in three years, and the Giants have been secretive about what it even was.”
Jones struggled with health throughout his NFL career before last season, where he had a career year and earned the $40 million per year payday that the Giants gave him this past offseason. But Evan says the health issues aren’t far enough in the rearview to not have legitimate concern that these will continue, and that this neck injury will sideline him for extended time.
“Here’s a spoiler alert for you, and I’m just predicting…I don’t think we’re gonna see Daniel Jones for a while,” Evan said. “Is it crazy to say we don’t even see him again this season? He has a neck injury, and is feeling more soreness today than he did three days ago, and the Giants haven’t told you anything about the neck injury he had two years ago. Yeah, you should have alarm bells going off all over the place right now.”
