Evan declares Joe Schoen's press conference 'a disaster'

Joe Schoen spoke to reporters at length on Tuesday, fielding plenty of questions about Daniel Jones, Brian Daboll, Deonte Banks, Evan Neal, and plenty of other areas of concern within the franchise in year three of Schoen’s tenure.

The general manager pointed to the Giants playing close games, and that Daboll has kept the locker room intact during this tumultuous stretch. He chose to point to the positives that may be hard to see unless you squint, and Evan took issue with that approach.

“I thought that was a disaster,” Evan said. “When you cite how many close games you’ve been in, when you say it over and over again, and talk about how close they are, I don’t think any Giants fan wants to hear it.

“I think that’s a tough thing to tell people right now.”

Schoen kept noting the team’s 1-5 record in one-score games, using it as ammo to fuel the belief that the team is close to having a record that looks a lot different than their current 2-8 mark. But this season overall in the NFL has seen a load of one-score games, so Evan isn’t sure how that argument from Schoen makes the Giants stand out in any way.

“How is that a positive stat for you? Everyone is playing in close games!” Evan said.

“I heard this, and didn’t feel great about the future.”

Tiki had a different takeaway from the presser, and believes it wasn’t as bad as Evan made it out to be.

“They wanted Joe Schoen, who is not a player or coach...to blame somebody. I give Joe Schoen credit for not blaming somebody,” Tiki said. “I give Joe Schoen credit for getting testy when they want to open-ended question him...how many times did they ask about Daniel Jones?”
