Evan is becoming a Tommy DeVito believer after leading the Giants to another win, and doesn’t like hearing fans “complimenting” the Jersey native by declaring he has a future in the NFL as a backup.
Evan says that is selling DeVito short.
“I want to warn everyone out there. You think you’re being nice when you say Tommy DeVito has proven he can be a backup in the league, but you’re actually being offensive,” Evan said. “He’s 3-1 as a starter, and when given the football with 1:33 to go, down by a point and two timeouts, Tommy DeVito led the Giants on a nice little drive that set up skinny Randy Bullock and a game-winning field goal.
“The dream is alive - not just for making the playoffs - but the dream is alive for Tommy DeVito to be the story that nobody saw coming. And I don’t mean as the backup quarterback. I mean as the quarterback.”
Tiki isn’t so sure, but Evan says DeVito has real potential to become the next out-of-nowhere story to become a legitimate NFL quarterback.
“Here’s the beauty of young guys that come out of nowhere,” Evan said. “Sometimes, if his name happens to be Brock Purdy, Tom Brady, or Kurt Warner, sometimes, it’s not the highly projected that becomes the great quarterback. Right now, we’re witnessing a young man who every week is getting better, and this week, led a game-winning drive on a Monday night in a playoff race. I believe in Tommy DeVito, and so should you.”
