Evan: Giants can win eight games regardless of Daniel Jones variable
Evan came into Thursday’s show with an optimistic view of the Giants, believing it is looking on the positive side in predicting that Big Blue will win eight games in the upcoming season.
For Evan, that prediction doesn’t come with any caveat in pertaining to the quarterback position, as he believes this team is equipped to reach eight wins with or without Daniel Jones as the starter.
“I think he can play when he’s healthy and when he’s held upright,” Evan said. “I think this defense is really solid and he’s been given better wide receivers. I think the Giants are equipped to get to that win total no matter what happens with the quarterback. I think the rest of the team is solid enough and has been built the right way.
“I think they have a chance to have a ferocious pass rush…I like the hiring of Shane Bowen. I love the addition of Brian Burns. I get to that number without Daniel Jones having the kind of season that maybe you think he’s going to have.”
The schedule plays a part in Evan’s optimism, and adding Drew Lock after losing Tyrod Taylor gives a more steady backup option if Jones’ injury woes continue in year six.
“I like them getting off to a good start,” Evan said. “And I also like the Cowboys and Eagles coming back down to earth.”
Evan thought he was being optimistic, but Tiki is even more hopeful about Big Blue in 2024.
“This year, I think they’re gonna be 9-8 or 10-7,” Tiki said. “If you’re pinning me, I’d say this is a nine-win team, because I think there are some tough games, especially later on in the season. Still winnable, and they can surprise us. Hell, they were three game-winning plays away from winning three more games last year. They could have won nine games a season ago.”
