Evan: 'Cold-hearted truth' is that Daniel Jones can't be trusted to stay healthy

Daniel Jones will miss his third straight game on Sunday, and Brian Daboll suddenly was far less committal on his quarterback playing again this season.

Evan believes Daboll made a mistake from the start with his public comments about Jones, and should have been non-committal from the start.

“‘Look, it’s a neck injury. I don’t know. He could miss a week, a month, six months, I don’t know,’” Evan presented as an alternative to what Daboll initially said when Jones went down with a neck injury. “I know that opens up into a big news story immediately when you say something like that, but it’s also honest.

“I think the mistake that Brian Daboll made…he left the door open three weeks ago to Jones not even missing a game…what the head coach should have done is actually what he did today, which is say ‘I don’t know, I’m not a doctor.’”

As for Jones, Evan says he regretfully now has to be considered a consistent injury risk who can’t be counted on to suit up every week, as last season proved to be the outlier in terms of staying healthy for a full season.

“Daniel Jones didn’t do anything to deserve this, but sports is a cold-hearted world,” Evan said. “Cold heartedly, I tell you that you can’t trust him to stay healthy and be on the field. That’s just the reality of the Daniel Jones debate.
I don’t think he’s magically coming back next week or the week after, and that sucks…but that’s where we are with him. This is the second time in three years that he’s going to miss significant time because of a neck injury.”
