Evan rips Giants performance, says team played like they 'quit' and 'tuned out' Brian Daboll
The Giants were outplayed in every facet of the game on Sunday, losing 30-7 to the Bucs at home in a game where fans fled to the exits well before the final whistle sounded.
Evan didn’t blame those fans at all for quitting on the game, mainly because he felt the players on the field quit long before the fans started leaving MetLife Stadium.
“That looked like a team that didn’t want to play football on a Sunday afternoon...that look like a team that quit,” Evan said. “It looked like a team that was so angry about the Daniel Jones cutting/benching, that they didn’t want to play football. What we witnessed was a sheer embarrassment, especially for those who trekked to MetLife Stadium.
“They got their ass kicked in every aspect. They were bad in every aspect. It looks so bad because you’re coming out of a bye, your coaching staff just made a quarterback change, and to play like that? That’s the response? That’s the response of a team that tuned out their head coach, or is pissed off at the front office.”
Evan fears the Giants may have turned on Brian Daboll, and a loss like Sunday was the “first step” towards him getting fired. And while that is an obvious indictment on the head coach, Evan says the players are just as much to blame for suiting up on a Sunday afternoon in front of their own fans and putting forth a performance like that.
“I think they’re all a mess. I blame everybody,” Evan said. “The excuse of the players being distracted over their friend being benched, I think that’s soft as hell. So I blame them.
“It really looked like a team that quit, and that sucks to say. I wouldn’t imagine professionals, young guys, veteran guys, guys making a lot of money or not making a lot of money, it’s crazy to me to think that players would quit...it was the first time I thought ‘Man, they tuned this head coach out.’”
