Evan explains why Giants need to fire Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll

Evan Roberts returned from his holiday vacation and declared with his very first comments back on the air that the Giants need to clean house after the season ends on Sunday.

“Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen need to go,” Evan said. “I’m now convinced of that.”

What led Evan to that realization? The status of the draft, as the Giants have lost the No. 1 overall pick thanks to a Week 17 win against the Colts, and Evan worries that Schoen and Daboll have waited so long to draft and develop their own quarterback in New York that they will recklessly choose or trade up for a QB that isn’t a safe bet for such high draft capital.

“Do you think the Giants should be forced to draft a quarterback in the first round? If Joe Schoen and/or Brian Daboll is back, they are 1,000 percent drafting a quarterback, even if it’s the wrong thing to do,” Evan said. “They’re gonna stretch on a quarterback, even if it’s the wrong decision…they may give up a ridiculous amount to move up and get a quarterback because they believe they have to.”

So much has been made about what Daboll was able to do with Josh Allen’s development in Buffalo, and Daboll himself not-so-subtly pointed to what is possible with good quarterback play after the win over Indy last weekend, where Drew Lock shockingly balled out and led New York to a 45-33 victory. Add in the mounting pressure of losing, and Evan feels this regime could be panicked into a reckless decision that could set the franchise back.

It is for that reason that Evan believes Schoen and Daboll shouldn’t be allowed to make that decision.

“This administration unfairly will feel pressure to stretch for a quarterback, because this is year four and they haven’t had one,” Evan said.

“If you get rid of Schoen and Daboll and bring in a brand new administration, they can sell a lot easier to the fanbase that they’re rebuilding and not gonna just reach for a quarterback.”
