Evan: Becoming tougher to justify Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen keeping their jobs
The Giants somehow found a new low in their miserable season on Sunday, as they were torched by Lamar Jackson and the Ravens as another plane flew above MetLife Stadium, this time imploring John Mara to “fire everyone.”
As Big Blue falls to 0-8 at home this year, Evan Roberts says it’s getting hard to argue against the plea of the message on the banner being towed above the Meadowlands on Sunday.
“It is becoming very difficult to say ‘Yeah, they should bring back Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen,’” Evan said. “Isn’t this becoming almost an impossible thing to actually say with conviction?
“This is a football team that hasn’t won a game in two and a half months…if this ends at 2-15 - and it’s going to end at 2-15, that’s a lock and a half - as a fan, when you watch this slop, it’s tough to believe in the head coach and general manager.”
The Giants could be moving towards a top draft pick, which could justify the team’s miserable record as it continues to find a franchise quarterback, but Evan isn’t sure if Daboll and Schoen should be given a chance to develop a young quarterback, considering it’s year three of their tenure and it has only gotten worse each year.
A potential future can only be sold for so long, and Evan says the Giants are getting close to losing the interest of the fanbase, and ownership will have to wonder whether keeping this regime intact for the sake of stability is worth the dip in attendance and revenue that can come with that decision.
“No matter how you cut this, you’re staring at a historically bad season in the history of the New York Giants,” Evan said. “If you look across the NFL over the last half decade, nobody survives seasons like this when it’s been three years.
“Giants fans have to be blaming someone for this, for that roster on Sunday and for a 2-15 season…who do blame for the roster being this bad? It’s becoming more difficult by the day to run it back when you see this.”
