A recent report by The Athletic says Brian Daboll’s use of “the Patriot way” has caused the reported rift between himself and defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, and with multiple outlets now reporting a clash between the two coaches, Evan said there is clearly something there, and it will lead to Martindale’s exit.
“I think it’s pretty obvious,” Evan said. “I’ll make you this prediction: Wink Martindale will not be the defensive coordinator of the New York Giants in 2024. This is a breakup that’s bound to happen.”
Daboll joked the report off after last weekend’s win over the Patriots, but Evan found it “awkward” and not inspiring to eliminate the assumption that the reports are accurate, and he believes it will end in a breakup.
“There’s something here. There’s something between Wink Martindale and Brian Daboll,” Evan said. “There doesn’t seem to be this simpatico relationship…there’s something there.
“The fact that you have separate reports…of any kind of tension, shows you that there’s tension.”
