Evan all but called Week 1 a must win for the Giants, who needed to prove they could finally slay the Cowboys dragon and set the tone for year two under Brian Daboll.
Instead, Big Blue was demolished in a 40-0 rout, and Evan wonders if it will be a sign of things to come this season.
“A year ago, the Giants had this incredible Week 1 victory that they pulled out of their rear end and warmed everyone up to Brian Daboll,” Evan said. “Let’s face it, we now know it set the tone for the season. You worry that last night isn’t just gonna be this anomaly, just a bad game against Dallas.
“What we saw last night may set the tone for an underwhelming season. This is not an easy schedule…look who you have to beat. You wonder, and you should certainly be worried about, I don’t care how early it is in the year, that what we saw last night may be more indicative of what we’re about to see.
“They’ve lost seven of their last 10 games dating back to last year…you have to worry.”
Evan pointed to a tough schedule, rookie cornerbacks, and a weak offensive line as to why the Giants may take a step back this year. After watching Sunday’s disaster, there was nothing to show that the offensive line shouldn’t be a major concern moving forward, and why things might not get better.
“Their offensive line sucked,” Evan said. “The one thing about an offensive line…a bad offensive line can ruin a year and turn everything haywire. It turned last night’s game haywire.”
