Five stats that encapsulate the ineptitude of the Giants' 2021 offense

So now that the season is over, just how bad WAS the Giants’ offense in 2022? Here are five ridiculous stats that show the ineptitude of the unit as a whole:

-The Giants scored 23 offensive touchdowns as a unit, 15 receiving and eight rushing, recorded by 13 different players. Saquon Barkley had the most total with all of four, while Evan Engram (three) had the most receiving. Barkley, Devontae Booker, and Daniel Jones tied for the rushing lead with two each.

-Despite seven players receiving at least 45 targets, the Giants’ leading receiver had 46 catches. That was Evan Engram, whose 408 yards were third on the team.

-Kenny Golladay was a bit of a bust in year one of a big deal, but he did lead the team in receiving yards…with 521, not even going over 500 until his first catch in the season finale. He also did not have a single one of the 15 receiving scores, so there is that.

-New York’s leader in yards from scrimmage was a nominal reserve: backup running back Devontae Booker. He and Saquon Barkley ended up tied for the team rushing title with 593 yards each, but Booker’s 12 receiving yards Sunday to Saquon’s 19 yards left Booker with 268 receiving to Barkley’s 263, giving Devontae and his 861 yards the team scrimmage title. Those two and Golladay (521, as he had no rushes) were the only three players to post at least 500 yards on the year, and sadly, Booker’s 861 is a higher total than 2020’s leader, Wayne Gallman, who had 796 yards from scrimmage last season.

-The Giants’ team completion percentage was sub-60 percent, as collectively, passers went 351-for-593, a 59.1 percentage. Take out Kadarius Toney (1-for-3), Dante Pettis (1-for-1), and Riley Dixon (0-for-1) and actual quarterbacks were 349-of-588, upping that total to 59.4 percent.

-Not quite a stat, but Big Blue did all this with 23 different players recording at least one yard from scrimmage and one other, defensive back Keion Crossen, somewhat involved – he was credited with the target on Dixon’s pass, a fake punt attempt against the Los Angeles Chargers.
