Giants add three more assistants to Brian Daboll's staff

The New York Giants officially announced three new staff additions on Saturday, naming John Egorugwu inside linebackers coach, Drew Wilkins outside linebackers coach, and Christian Jones as an offensive assistant.

In addition, the team has promoted Ryan Hollern, formerly chief of staff for the coaching staff, to the role of college scouting coordinator, and hired Mark Loecher as an assistant strength and conditioning coach.

Egorugwu, 35, was Vanderbilt’s linebackers coach in 2021, but spent 2017-20 in Buffalo with head coach Brian Daboll, working as a defensive quality control and assistant linebackers coach. He also worked with Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale in Baltimore in 2015-16, serving as a defensive assistant working primarily with then-linebackers coach Martindale.

Prior to his NFL career, Egorugwu spent five years in the collegiate ranks, serving as a linebackers coach at his alma mater, William Jewell, in 2010-11 and as a graduate assistant at Missouri from 2012-14.

Wilkins, 34, also is a known quantity to Martindale, having spent the previous 12 seasons with the Ravens. Wilkins served as a video operations intern, video coordinator, and coaching assistant before being promoted to assistant defensive line coach in 2017, and was named outside linebackers coach in 2020.

Jones, 28, comes from the Vikings, where he was an offensive quality control coach in 2019-20 and the assistant wide receivers coach in 2021. Prior to his time in Minnesota, he began his career as an offensive intern at alma mater Northwestern in 2017, and then served as an offensive graduate assistant at Texas in 2018.

Loecher has spent eight years in the NFL, most recently serving as the Broncos’ assistant strength and conditioning coach in 2021 and as a strength and conditioning assistant with the Steelers in 2020.

Per the Giants, release, the moves all but complete the new staff under Daboll, with the outside linebackers coaches joining a defensive staff under Martindale that includes defensive line coach Andre Patterson, defensive backs coach Jerome Henderson, and assistant defensive backs coach Mike Treier.

Scott joins an offensive staff under new coordinator Mike Kafka that includes quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney, running backs coach DeAndre Smith, wide receivers coach Mike Groh (wide receivers), tight ends coach Andy Bischoff, offensive line coach Bobby Johnson, and assistant offensive line coach Tony Sparano, Jr.

Special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey has also been announced as returning, with assistant coach Anthony Blevins and quality control coach Nick Williams.
