The New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders played part of the second half of Sunday’s game with only six officials, as side judge Joe Larrew did not come out after halftime.
He later returned to the game, where CBS’ broadcasting crew announced he was suffering from symptoms of dehydration.
Larrew, 69, is in his 19th season as an official, and 16th as a side judge. He sat out 2020 due to COVID-19 concerns, but was a side judge from 2002-2016 before spending 2017-19 as a field judge.
He returned to the side judge spot this season as part of referee Clay Martin’s crew.
