As the Giants rest up heading into their bye weekend, Boomer and Gio assessed where Big Blue stands among the rest of the league after a surprising 6-2 start.
For Boomer, the job head coach Brian Daboll has done cannot be overstated, but it is also important to manage expectations when projecting what the Giants can do the rest of the season.
“I do think Brian Daboll is my leader for Coach of the Year,” Boomer said. “I’m kind of a realist in this regard. I think the Giants have a good chance at making the playoffs now. Things have changed. Things look better, Daniel Jones looks better, but let’s be serious.
“The offensive line looks good to me…so they should be able to run the ball. But when you start talking about the top-end teams in the league…6-2 says they’re in the top third of the league, but I still think they’re in the middle section of the teams of the league.”
Boomer isn’t trying to rain on the Giants’ parade. If anything, given what the expectations were earlier in the year, a middle-of-the-pack team with a Coach of the Year in season one of a new era isn’t too shabby.
“There’s nothing wrong with that,” Boomer said. “You’re talking about somewhere between 10 and 16.”
