Gio doesn't think Brian Daboll will save Daniel Jones: 'I don't think he's all that good'

Many are hoping for an improved version of Daniel Jones with a new coaching staff led by Brian Daboll, who helped turn Josh Allen into a bonafide MVP candidate.

But Gio has already made up his mind about Jones’ fate. He has seen all he needs to see from the Giants quarterback.

“Yeah, I have,” Gio said during Friday’s show. “It’s three years now. We’re not talking about a year or two years or three years now.

“I’ve seen him play and I don’t think he’s all that good. He was the same guy hanging on for dear life with Eli Manning the last couple years. This guy doesn’t understand when to cut his losses with players. With coaches, he cuts his losses quick. With players though, he wants to give them another opportunity.”

Many, including Big Blue co-owner John Mara, believe the fluctuating coaching staffs have stunted the growth of the former sixth overall pick, but Gio doesn’t believe a new coaching staff will address the fumbles and health issues that have highlighted Jones’ NFL career.

“These are things that coaches don’t fix generally,” Gio said. “He can’t take care of the ball and he can’t stay healthy.”

Gio also doesn’t believe history is on the side of Jones and the Giants, as he can’t remember many instances where a new coaching staff came to the quarterback’s team and helped turn his career around, with maybe one exception.

“The only time I can remember a new head coach turned a quarterback’s career around that was on the same team,” Gio said. “The coach that game in and made that guy a legitimate NFL quarterback…Jim Harbaugh and Alex Smith.”
