Joe Schoen told reporters on Monday that the Giants expect Daniel Jones to be the starting quarterback once he returns from ACL surgery, but C-Mac is calling bogus.
“I don’t believe what he said necessarily, and I think some of his stuff is misleading,” C-Mac said. “The headline is going to be ‘Daniel Jones, starting quarterback when healthy.’
“‘You’ve seen it, you know why we believe in Daniel Jones. You’ve seen the preseason.’ Well, he also said a lot of other things, and I’m not buying it. I understand they expect him to be the starting quarterback for this team…with the contract he signed last offseason, it would be almost impossible to cut him after one year.
It makes no sense to have that much dead money on the team…make no mistake about it, I still believe they will draft a quarterback in this draft.”
C-Mac still wants to see the Giants take a quarterback in the upcoming draft, and begin the process of mobbing on from Jones, who Big Blue can cut ties with after next season. Ultimately, C-Mac believes that is what will happen, despite Schoen’s comments about Jones on Monday.
“I don’t care about the question marks about the offensive line, or the youth in the defensive backfield, or any other issue on this team,” C-Mac said. “I don’t care about any of them until I solve the quarterback issue…that is numero uno for any NFL team.”
