C-Mac: Giants fans focused on wrong things when it comes to Saquon Barkley decision

After C-Mac praised the Giants for properly evaluating Saquon Barkley and the running back position as a whole, callers chimed in to debate the topic, noting Barkley’s leadership and impact he has had on the organization since being drafted.

Chris wasn’t disputing any of that, but did note that Giants fans seemed to be focusing on the wrong things when it comes to Barkley’s future. Sure, he has meant a lot to the team, but running backs are not the most important position on the field. Just look at the Chiefs, where Rutgers product Isiah Pacheco looks like a star thanks to having the right quarterback in place to open things up.

“Great, Saquon Barkley is great…the running back doesn’t do it by himself. The quarterback does it,” C-Mac said. “The quarterback can take Pacheco and turn the team into a Super Bowl caliber team. Saquon Barkley can’t take Daniel Jones and turn the Giants into a winner.

“If Saquon Barkley was on the Chiefs, he would be a much better player and they’d win more. But they don’t need him, they’re winning with Pacheco!”

It will hurt if Barkley leaves, but not as much from an on-the-field perspective as some fans think.

“You don’t need Saquon Barkley to win,” C-Mac said. “I love him, he’s a good dude, he’s done everything he’s been asked to do…he’s been given bad coaches, bad offensive lines, and probably a bad quarterback…it’s just the value of a running back. That’s all.”
