Joe Schoen raves about Daniel Jones' improvements while on with Tiki and Tierney

Joe Schoen joined Tiki and Tierney on Wednesday afternoon, and BT asked the Giants GM how much Daniel Jones has improved since the day Schoen took the job.

Schoen responded with plenty of praise for the former sixth overall pick.

“Even when I took the job, watching the film before I got here, that he had the physical tools,” Schoen said. “He has the arm strength, he can make the throws, he can run, he’s got a lot of dominant traits for the position that are desirable.

“He’s continued to get better in this system from the spring to training camp…once we got into game plan, we’re trying to figure out our team and what guys do well…as the offense has been evolving on a weekly basis, he’s continued to get better and given input on what he likes, hat plays he likes, what routes he likes to throw. I’m happy where he is.”

Jones has led the Giants to multiple late comebacks this season, a 6-2 record, and has Big Blue sniffing a playoff spot as one of the big surprises in the NFL.

“You talk about gotta-have-it moments when you’re evaluating a quarterback, he’s got five fourth-quarter comebacks, he’s done a good job on third down,” Schoen said. “One of my goals was to make sure he can stand on his feet, first and foremost.”

Due to salary cap constraints when he took the job, Schoen wasn’t able to bring in multiple difference makers at wide receiver for Jones to play with, but he has shown vast improvement in Brian Daboll’s system, and hopes to get Jones even more help in the future, which could mean Jones is back for next season?

“We’d all love to see him with three No. 1s out there throwing to, but we’ll get there,” Schoen said. “It’s not gonna happen overnight.”
