The Giants’ top draft pick may not be ready for training camp in nearly two months.
Head coach Brian Daboll told reporters on Thursday that Kayvon Thibodeaux, the fifth overall pick in this year’s draft, “may or not” be ready for training camp as he continues to wear a red jersey during OTAs.
“Yeah, hopefully,” Daboll said when asked if Thibodeaux would be ready for training camp, via the New York Post. “But I’m not gonna promise anything. He may or may not.”
Thibodeaux has been in a red jersey for two weeks after getting tangled during an indoor practice, and was once again doing limited work on Thursday. His final year at Oregon was hampered by an ankle injury, but he still came into the draft with plenty of hype as an edge rusher that could make a big impact in his rookie season.
That of course could still happen for Thibodeaux, but his Giants tenure isn’t off to a good start with a cloudy injury outlook.
