One of the more improbable NFL comebacks is reportedly one step closer to becoming a reality.
According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, Giants offensive lineman Nick Gates is being added to Big Blue’s active roster on Wednesday, just over a year after he suffered a gruesome leg injury that resulted in a broken tibia and fibula, and required seven surgeries.
There was a temporary fear that Gates would have to lose his leg after the injury. Instead, he’s nearing a return to the gridiron.
Gates still needs to put on the pads and participate in full practices, but he could be back on the field soon in what would be a remarkable comeback story for Gates, whose career seemed to be in doubt after the injury 405 days ago.
