According to multiple reports, the Giants do not intend on trading Saquon Barkley at the deadline, and Sunday’s win over the Commanders likely makes a trade even less likely.
BT says that is a short-sighted mistake by Big Blue.
“He’s the most amazing talent on the entire team,” BT said. “But do you think the Giants give him a long-term deal? The answer is no. do you think the Giants tag him back-to-back years, which then would be 120 percent of the salary this year? The answer is no.
“If you’re not good this year - and they’re not - and you’re not going to do one of the two things I threw out there with Barkley, why wouldn’t you trade him?”
Sal is a proponent of keeping Barkley, even if he doesn’t believe the Giants are a playoff team this year. But, even while acknowledging that Barkley has been a spectacular Giant, both on and off the field, BT says it would be in the best interest of the organization to get back assets for a player they don’t plan on keeping long term anyway.
“This win, in a weird way,” BT said. “Kind of complicates the direction and the path that they should take.”
