Saquon Barkley was asked at Giants practice on Tuesday what he has learned from backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor, and his answer was a peculiar one.
You could say, it stunk.
“This might sound so weird, but he smells good, man,” Barkley said. “I’ll tell you what, I tell him all the time. We joke around and say he’s the smoothest man in football, but no matter what, before practice after practice, before workout, after workout.
“He won’t tell me his secret. He won’t let me know what he’s putting on. But he’s a smooth cat.”
OK, certainly not a cookie-cutter answer or a dull one by any means, but the Giants would likely rather have a serviceable backup who smells bad, but Barkley believes New York is getting the best of both worlds.
“He’s a competitor,” Barkley said. “He’s a veteran. He’s a great quarterback. That’s someone DJ can lean on, and he’s been a great teammate.”
