The Giants finally addressed their need at edge rusher in the third round of the NFL draft Friday night, taking Old Dominion's Oshane Ximines with the 95th overall pick.
Big Blue was tied for 30th in the NFL last season with 30 sacks and then traded away sack leader Olivier Vernon. General manager Dave Gettleman believes he might have landed a steal in Ximines, whom he said the Giants had a late second-round grade on.
The 6-foot-4, 253-pound Ximines had 32 1/2 sacks over his college career, including 11 1/2 as a senior. He also forced 11 career fumbles.
Ximines, who made history by becoming the first ODU player ever drafted by an NFL team, is said to have a quick first step and impressive pass-rushing moves as well as long arms, but he's on the light side for a defensive end.
Despite that, Gettleman liked Ximines so much that he said he thought about trading up into the middle of the third round when he was still on the board.
Gettleman: Could Ximines start in the ACC? He can. He's played so much. He has legitimate pass rush moves. He can counterpunch.

The Giants did not have a second-round pick Friday after trading back up into the first round to select Georgia cornerback Deandre Baker. New York also landed Duke quarterback Daniel Jones and Clemson defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence in the first round.
