In a move to potentially prepare for Daniel Jones’ absence on Sunday, the Giants have signed quarterback Jake Fromm off the Bills’ practice squad.
The team announced the move early Wednesday morning, shortly after reports surfaced that Jones’ status for Week 13 was in doubt due to a neck strain suffered early on in New York’s win over the Eagles in Week 12.
Head coach Joe Judge told reporters on Wednesday that the team would try to get Fromm acquainted during the rest of practice this week, and there is a chance he could be active on Sunday against the Dolphins.
Fromm was selected in the fifth round of the 2020 draft by Buffalo. The Georgia product was inactive for all of last season and has no NFL playing experience, but was 21-for-36 with 172 yards in the 2021 preseason, shortly before his release and addition to the practice squad.
Should Jones be unable to go on Sunday (he will continue to practice this week as the Giants try to gauge his health and ability to play), Fromm could find his way onto the depth chart alongside Mike Glennon, the likely starter if Jones is ruled out.
