Giants general manager Joe Schoen spoke with reporters at Senior Bowl practices in Alabama on Wednesday, and revealed that he had more talks with Saquon Barkley’s camp about a potential contract earlier this week, and the plan is to continue those talks next week.
As for Daniel Jones, Schoen said those talks have not started yet.
“With any negotiation you try to move closer,” Schoen said, via Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, “And that’s what we’ll try to do next week.”
The two sides were reportedly far apart on a deal when talks happened during the Giants’ bye week, and when Big Blue’s season ended, Schoen seemed much more optimistic about retaining Jones than Barkley, who returned to being a 1,000-yard rusher this season. Both Jones and Barkley were instrumental in the Giants’ resurgent season, with Jones having the best year of his career despite playing in yet another new offensive system.
Once again, Schoen reiterated that the team wants Jones back in New York next season.
