The New York Giants are reportedly on the verge of releasing troubled defensive back DeAndre Baker.
The Giants are preparing to cut Baker as soon as this week, while the second-year pro faces four felony counts of robbery with a firearm, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
The apparently impending move comes as little surprise, Rapoport notes, as the Giants have hinted at the possibility of cutting Baker previously and even reassigned his No. 27 jersey to another player this week.
Baker is presently on the commissioner's exempt list while his legal case plays out, per league protocol.
Baker and Seattle Seahawks defensive back Quinton Dunbar were accused of robbing a May party they attended in Miramar, Florida, after a scuffle had broken out. Witnesses said Baker and Dunbar pulled out handguns and robbed partygoers of their cash and other valuables amid the chaotic scene.
Baker and Dunbar later turned themselves in to Florida authorities, and were released on bail. Charges against Dunbar were dropped for insufficient evidence, but Baker's case remains ongoing.
Baker last week was hit with a civil suit by several people claiming to be among his alleged victims in the holdup. The suit was seeking up to $100,000 in damages.
Baker played in all 16 games for the Giants as a rookie, including 15 starts, after the G-Men snagged him with the last of their three first-round draft picks in 2019, 30th overall.
The Miami native played his college ball at Georgia. He turned 23 on Friday.
