McMonigle: Giants win shows there is reason to believe in Brian Daboll, Daniel Jones
The Giants offense, even without Malik Nabers and Devin Singletary, looked as good as it has all season on Sunday in Seattle, a place as tough as any to come away with a road victory.
But the Giants did just that thanks to a great day by Daniel Jones (23-34 for 257 yards and two touchdowns) and Tyrone Tracy, who logged 129 yards on the ground in place of Singletary.
For Chris McMonigle, the win showed that there is reason to believe that the duo of the head coach and quarterback are capable of success.
“That is a performance that has me believing in the combination of Brian Daboll and Daniel Jones,” C-Mac said. “Heading into that spot, off of the brutal loss against the Cowboys, to go into Seattle…without your best players, I was concerned how this offense was gonna look.”
But the offense looked as good as it has all season, with Jones now having multiple encouraging games under his belt after his nightmare season opener, and Daboll looking like a legit play caller after Sunday’s performance. There were plenty of warranted questions about Jones after Week 1, and questions had begun to rise about Daboll, but C-Mac says those should be quieted for now, and replaced with belief.
“Some of my core beliefs on Daniel Jones aren’t gonna change off of one week. They won’t even change off of the last three weeks,” C-Mac said. “But he’s been really good, despite missing some throws last week. Not only did he made all the throws and spread the football around, but man if he isn’t a tough son of a gun who puts his shoulder down.
“This Giants team showed that Brian Daboll is a legitimate head coach...they are creating a culture here...this coach looks like he’s a legitimate head coach again. And it looks like, right now, the quarterback is playing well enough where you can envision a future with these two.”
