On the day Sterling Shepard returned to full practice after suffering a torn Achilles last December, the Giants saw another wideout go down to the same injury.

Collin Johnson, who was the team’s leader in targets, catches, and yards in their preseason opener, tore his right Achilles tendon in practice on Tuesday, and will miss the 2022 season after being placed on injured reserve.

Johnson had 10 catches for 123 receiving yards in the first two preseason games, and was making a strong impression while getting a lot of first team reps – so much so that head coach Brian Daboll gave him and another fledgling receiver high praise earlier in the week.

"The guys that have been out there and producing, Collin Johnson, David Sills, they've stepped their game up," Daboll said.
"And they're right in the mix, not just to make a team but to play."

Johnson, 24, has 29 catches for 377 yards in 26 career games with the Jaguars and Giants.

The Giants also lost wide receiver Marcus Kemp for the season, as he was placed on IR with a hamstring injury, and waived WR Robert Foster, who was already on IR, with an injury settlement. The team claimed wide receivers Jaylon Moore and Bailey Gaither off waivers from Baltimore to replace Johnson and Kemp on the camp roster.
