Gio: Brian Daboll helping save Giants season has been overshadowed by Tommy DeVito

Gio admitted he could not have been more wrong about the Giants last season, when he expected a four-win season and the end of Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley in New York.

But this season, he will take a victory lap for maintaining that the head coach would turn things around and no go down like head coaches in recent years have in New York in their second season.

“When things were looking really bleak, I said Brian Daboll is not gonna be Joe Judge 2.0,” Gio said. “He is not gonna let this thing fall apart. He’s better than those guys.

“Because Tommy DeVito has been the story, so much so that nobody is paying attention to anything else going on with the Giants, I think a little bit of credit to Brian Daboll is being lost in all of this. He has won three straight games with an undrafted rookie free agent quarterback, when the team could have very easily turned their back on the coach, made business decisions out there, and we could have seen what we saw with Ben McAdoo and Joe Judge in the second year…and it didn’t happen.”

DeVito is stealing all the headlines, and rightfully so. But Gio wants to make sure Daboll is getting the praise he deserves for putting DeVito in a position to succeed so quickly, and keep the ship from sinking back when the Giants were 2-8.

“I don’t know what’s gonna happen with Tommy DeVito,” Gio said. “But I know Brian Daboll is gonna be here for a very long time.”
