Gio can't believe overreactions to Daniel Jones struggling in training camp

Several reports out of Giants training camp indicate that Daniel Jones has had a rough go of it as he works his way back from ACL surgery, but Gio says any concern about Big Blue’s QB1 is way overblown, at least when it comes to his current performance at practice.

“We heard two years ago, before he got the contract and he had the best season of his career, how bad he looked in training camp and the offense was terrible,” Gio said. “Then we learned that Brian Daboll was essentially putting him in situations where he couldn’t succeed just to test his mental toughness. Let’s not forget that, because that could be going on as well.”

Gio hasn’t hid his reluctance to believe in Jones, or his criticism in the Giants still trying him out as the starting quarterback. But he isn’t going to get worked up about some rough practices as Jones works his way back from major surgery.

“We’re talking about Daniel Jones coming off a massive injury and coming back and getting acclimated in practice,” Gio said. “I bet you there are plenty of quarterbacks that have a better reputation and career so far than Daniel Jones that don’t look great every single snap in practice. It’s just not reported that way because Daniel Jones is under a microscope.

“Let’s chill out about how terrible he looks in practice and training camp, and give the guy and opportunity to show us in games that count whether or not he’s gonna be here for the future.”
