Saquon Barkley fired back at his critics on Thursday when he spoke about those who take issue with his running style, noting that the Giants running back does too much dancing instead of running downhill.
Gio appreciates having a chip on your shoulder after injuries have hampered, or completely wiped out, his last two seasons, but he seems done with the Barkley era in New York even before Barkley’s hopeful redemption season begins.
“He better have a great year,” Gio said. “All I have heard from everybody who has seen him this year is how great he looks…and then he’s saying, ‘I’m sick of you All-Pros with clickers telling me how to do the job.’ He really went after critics of his running style. So he better run out and be great, better than he was his rookie year.”
By all accounts, Barkley will be used heavily in the Giants new playbook, but Gio already thinks he’s seen enough of the former Offensive Rookie of the Year.
“I just feel like the Saquon Barkley thing is done,” Gio said. “I know injuries, you can’t blame him for that, but how many times do we have to see Saquon Barkley with 10 carries, 42 yards? It’s like every single week.
“I know Brian Daboll is supposed to be a better play caller and maybe that puts him in a better position to succeed, but I just feel like we’ve seen enough of it already.”
