The Giants enter Sunday as massive underdogs to the Cowboys, as many expect Big Blue to continue its descent into a lost season.
Gio says that’s exactly what New York needs, now that it is out of the playoff picture, without its top receiving target in Darren Waller for the foreseeable future, and without Daniel Jones for the rest of the season.
“What you need is a reason to move on from Daniel Jones, and that reason would be the availability to draft one of these top quarterbacks this year,” Gio said. “If the Giants win a few games, and all the guys they would have drafted at the quarterback position are gone, and Daniel Jones gets healthy and has a halfway decent season…then what are you gonna do? You might as well just keep him because there’s no other alternative.”
Gio says winning some games would likely trap the Giants with Jones past next offseason, when they have an escape hatch in his contract. So, the objective should be to tank for Caleb Williams or Drake Maye.
